This video is my second kite flight attempt in light winds 6-10 mph. Using a new custom mount (see below) for the GoPro Hero 3 that is mounted flush with the kite. The camera is mounted to a Swept Wing Double Box Delta designed by Barbara Meyer. The kite is fairly stable for this type of mount.

Photo of the mount:

I used the flat plate mount that came on the GoPro box
I used cardboard about 16 inches wide by a little more than 2x the height of the flat square bottom of the GoPro mount plate.
I folded the cardboard in half of the height. I placed plate between folded layers of the cardboard. A hole was cut in the cardboard to have the GoPro mount poke through. I wrapped duct tape around three sides of the cardboard to keep the folded cardboard sealed and to provide reinforcement on the corners of the cardboard for holes to attach zip-ties. Four zip ties were used to attach the cardboard to the kite struts + 2 zip-ties to control the horizontal position to control balance.

I used a post production video stabilizer to keep the video smooth. Newer versions of the GoPro camera have stabilization built in.

Frequently Asked Questions

You can make money with drone photography

For photographers trying to make money with drones, the biggest problem is that there aren’t any products that can solve the problems associated with them. This makes it less fun to fly drones if the equipment and software are not of high quality.

There are also insurance and liability concerns, so many photographers prefer to take pictures from the ground. This is a completely new way to capture images, and you might get paid for it.

Drones are very much like video cameras in how they capture light. Use the same technology to take amazing photos.

Companies are already making significant progress in the creation of high-quality aerial photos. We've already talked about DJI and GoPro. We are starting to see more companies entering the space.

Although these cameras were designed for aerial photography they can also be used on the ground. Every major manufacturer is investing heavily in the development and maintenance of their imaging technologies.

This means you can eventually buy a drone which shoots 4K videos, and takes amazing photographs. This is possible. DJI has been releasing higher-resolution versions for their Phantom series drones.

DJI recently released the Inspire 2, which features a 12-megapixel sensor capable of shooting at 5120 x 3456 pixels. You can also record RAW files at 30 frames per minute, 8-bit format.

You can certainly make money from drone photos.

Is it safe to fly a drone in the night?

Drones are becoming increasingly popular. Drones offer amazing aerial shots of our houses and businesses. They are also great for delivering goods to large areas or capturing footage of sporting events. However, there are still very few regulations surrounding the use of drones. Some states have banned drones entirely, while others have placed restrictions on where they can be used.

Drones that are flown during daylight hours are quite safe. However, night-time operation can pose dangers. Flying a drone at night could put you and other pilots in danger. This is because drones are difficult to see obstacles and hazards. Pilot errors could result in an accident.

Drones are becoming more and more popular. It is therefore important that we learn how they can be safely operated. There are two types of drones currently available: fixed-wing androtary-wing. Fixed-wing drones are typically smaller and easier to pilot than rotary-wing ones. Fixed-wing models usually have four propellers while rotary-wing models only have one rotor.

You should be familiarized with all local drone laws to avoid any mishaps. Make sure that your drone comes with lights. This makes it easier for you to see potential dangers. If you intend to photograph, it is important to protect your lens. It is also a good idea to use protective goggles when flying your drone.

Drone flying at night poses several dangers. This includes collisions and damage to power lines, trees, or buildings. Drones can also get lost or fall out the sky. You must ensure your drone is not in danger of being tripped up or falling from the sky. Drones are also vulnerable to sudden weather changes and wind gusts. These factors can affect your drone's flight and lead to it landing on its feet.

Drones have become increasingly popular, but there are possible health risks. These drones can emit noises that can cause hearing loss and headaches. The vibrations from drones can also cause harm to the body. The operator license allows you to fly drones, but it can also lead to legal action and fines.

Follow these guidelines to avoid drone accidents. When flying your drone, you must keep it within your line of sight. If you are flying near airports, make sure that you obey any restrictions imposed by airport authorities. Be extra careful when flying your drone over water, as it increases the chances of a collision.

Which drone to buy as a beginner?

Drones that are easy to fly for beginners are the best. These include drones with an FPV (first person view) camera. This allows you to remotely control your drone from your smartphone.

Some quadcopters are designed specifically for aerial photography. A multirotor model might be a better choice if you want to explore advanced features, such as obstacle avoidance or autonomous flight mode.

The drones come in two price categories: low-cost ones under $100 and high-end ones over $300.

The cheapest models usually come with a limited range and battery life, while the most expensive ones feature better performance and longer flight times.

Because they are easier to control and operate, most beginners choose to purchase cheaper models. If you plan on spending hours flying your drone, you might be interested in a higher-end model.

How much money do drone photographers make?

A photographer could make more or less than $10k depending upon how long he/she is flying for and where he/she takes photos. You could make as much as $20-30 per hour if you are able to shoot in remote areas like national parks and forests.

An average person is paid $15-$25 an hr in retail. That means you could fly drones for $50-$75 if that's what you desire. There are many opportunities to make even more. Most drone pilots fly for companies that require them travel throughout the country, or internationally.

The cost of a flight can vary depending on how much time you spend flying and how far you travel. Although this can quickly add up, if you are passionate about photography and enjoy flying, it could be worthwhile.

What do you require for drone photography

Drone photography is more than just flying a camera. There are a lot of things you need to consider when planning and executing an effective drone shoot. From choosing the right location to determining how much insurance you need to carry out a successful aerial shoot.

The most important thing is to ensure you have permission to fly drones in the area you plan to shoot in. This involves finding out if there are restrictions regarding where you can fly or where your drone can be operated. You may need to apply to fly your drone in restricted areas if there are.

You also need to check what regulations apply in your country. Some countries require permits to fly drones. Others limit how many flights you can make in a specific time.

In addition to obtaining permission to fly drones, you'll need to find somewhere safe and secure to land your drone after each flight. You can rent a landing spot from local businesses for around $10 per hour. Also, you will have storage space. A dedicated landing pad can also be purchased.

Before you begin shooting, you must decide on the type of drone you want. Different drones offer different capabilities and features. Fixed-wing drones tend not to be as expensive and are easier to operate, while multirotor drones can be more stable and powerful.

You will first have to decide on the type of drone that you want. Then, you need to decide what equipment you need. The equipment required to operate a drone camera includes a remote controller and gimbal as well as batteries and memory cards.

The camera is stabilized by the gimbal during flight. To keep the camera stable, the gimbal attaches directly on the drone's body.

Remote controllers enable you to pilot your drone remotely. These devices have buttons and joysticks that allow you control your drone from afar.

Batteries power the drone’s motors and camera, while memory cards store photos taken with the drone. You'll need enough battery power to ensure clear pictures.

Once you've selected the equipment you'll need, you'll need to figure out where you'll shoot. Is it indoors or outdoor? Are you going for architecture or landscape photography? What are you planning to shoot? These are all factors that will affect the preparations you make for your shoot.

If you intend to shoot inside, lighting is a must. Multiple lights will help lighten a room. One large light should be placed above the subject, one near the middle and another closer to the floor.

You need to take into account wind conditions when outdoors. Drone pilots could be affected by windy days, as they can be blown off track. Take off only when the weather permits.

When selecting your location, think about whether you'll need to bring in extra equipment, such as tripods or stands. These items will ensure that your drone is level and stable so you don’t lose any quality shots.

An outdoor shoot should be between 10 am to 4 pm. Although there won’t be as many people around at this time, it will still provide enough light for stunning photos.

To conclude, drone photography isn't just fun and incredibly useful for capturing stunning aerial photographs. Follow these simple steps to create stunning images right away!
