How do I fly my drone?

Can drones take pictures at night?

Yes, that's the answer. But it's been a long-standing tradition. We have been taking photos at night for many decades.

But there's a catch. Night photography requires specialized equipment. You can't do it with a camera that costs less then $10k.

When light strikes an object, it bounces back in various wavelengths.

These wavelengths merge to form white light at long distances from source.

This is why your eyes can see colors even if the sun is many millions of miles away.

The opposite is true. When light strikes an object very close to its source it reflects in narrow wavelengths. These wavelengths bounce back straight to us, without overlapping.

This means that objects appear brighter when they are closer to each other. This is why objects appear to glow under black light.

The amount of light reflected depends on how much energy the object absorbs. Therefore, if light hits an object, it might reflect more blue than red light.

The human eye is more sensitive to blue light than objects, so objects appear bluer when they are viewed under blacklight.

This has to do with drones. If you're trying to photograph something dark, such as a forest or a cave, you need to use a very bright light source.

An ordinary lamp won't be powerful enough to illuminate the entire scene. It will give you only a shadowed picture and nothing else.

A strobe will give you a great shot. You won't want to lug around a large flashgun so you will need a smaller one.

These lights are called speedlights due to the fact that they produce flashes light so fast, they can create a stroboscopic effect.

If we say "stroboscopic", you can see the light pulse across the screen. The better the picture, the faster the rate.

We won't cover how to set-up a Speedlight. But you can find many tutorials online.

We'll tell you, to get a clear shot, ensure that your subject is well lit.

The beam should be aimed at a 45° angle in order to achieve this. You can adjust the flashgun's intensity by moving its head.

Once you have chosen the best setting, hold your gun steady while you press the shutter release.

Once the flash has reached the subject's area, press the shutter yet again. This will fire another flashgun burst.

While the first burst illuminates the subject, the second one will capture the moment after the first burst has passed.

The result is continuous exposure, where both bursts are recorded.

Now that we know how to capture images during the daylight, let's learn how to do night photography.

The color balance is the last thing we need to address.

Most people assume that all the images taken at night will be too dark.

That's true, but the same applies to daytime photos.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re shooting at dawn or at dusk. The camera will always record a darker shot.

There are many benefits to taking photos at night, such as capturing more detail, better lighting conditions, and even the stars.

Many photographers prefer to shoot at nights to avoid having to deal with the limitations of daylight photography.

But while these benefits make urban photography appealing, people mainly fly drones at night to capture beautiful nighttime scenes.

They love the way the light changes when the sun goes down. Many people now post videos of themselves flying drones at midnight and upload them online.

Although drone footage isn’t necessarily cutting-edge technology, the quality of the images is exceptional.

The best thing about this is that it can be done yourself without the need for special equipment. All you need is a smartphone camera.
