It's easy for us as nature photographers to get caught up with the bucket list "banger" locations that we miss out on the importance of a "go-to" location close to home.

In this episode, I want to talk about the importance of finding this go-to location for your landscape photography...or what I like to refer to as a Common Place.

Common places give us so much room for improvement as photographers. They help us practice our creativity, master our photography equipment, and help us learn the art of storytelling through photography.

I encourage you to find a go-to common place for your landscape and nature photography in 2024!

Here are the 3 most popular drones on Amazon in 2022

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it possible to make money from drone photography?

For photographers trying to make money with drones, the biggest problem is that there aren’t any products that can solve the problems associated with them. This makes it less fun to fly drones if the equipment and software are not of high quality.

You also have to worry about insurance costs and liability issues, so most photographers will stick to taking pictures from the ground. However, there is an entirely new way to take pictures that can potentially earn you a commission.

In the way they capture light, drones look very similar to video cameras. Why not make amazing photos with the same technology?

Companies are already making great strides toward creating photo-quality images taken from above. We have already discussed DJI & GoPro. We're seeing more companies in the space.

These cameras are great for ground photography even though they were made for aerial photography. Every major manufacturer is investing heavily in the development and maintenance of their imaging technologies.

This means you will eventually be able purchase a drone that can shoot 4K videos and take amazing photos. This may be happening already. DJI has been releasing higher-resolution versions for their Phantom series drones.

DJI just released the Inspire 2 camera, which has a 12-megapixel sensor and can capture images at 5120 x 35656 pixels. If you prefer to shoot in RAW format you can capture 8-bit files at 30 frames a second.

Yes, drone photos can be a great way to make some extra cash.

Is it safe to fly a drone in the night?

Drones become more popular by the day. As well as providing us with amazing aerial shots of our homes and businesses, drones are also useful for surveying large areas, delivering goods, and capturing video footage of events such as sporting matches. However, there are still very few regulations surrounding the use of drones. They are banned in some states, and restricted in others.

Although drones are generally safe to fly during daylight hours, they can be hazardous when used at night. Drone pilots and others could be at risk if they are flying at night. This is because drones are difficult to see obstacles and hazards. Pilot errors could result in an accident.

Drones are rapidly becoming more popular. Therefore, it is important to learn how to safely operate them. There are currently two main types of drones: fixed-wing and rotary-wing. Fixed-wing drones are generally smaller and easier to control compared to rotary-wing models. A fixed-wing model usually has four propellers, whereas a rotary-wing model has a single rotor.

To avoid any accidents, it is recommended that you familiarise yourself with local laws regarding drone usage and make sure that you keep your drone within your line of sight at all times. A key safety tip is to make sure your drone has lights that flash green and red. This makes it much easier to spot objects that might threaten you. You should protect your camera lens from any damage when you plan on taking photographs. Also, it is advisable to wear protective goggles whenever you are flying your drone.

Night flying drones poses many dangers. These include collisions with power lines or trees and even buildings. A drone could also become lost or fall from the skies. Avoid obstacles and stay close to your drone. Drones can also be affected by wind gusts or sudden weather changes. These factors can interrupt your drone's flight, causing it to crash on the ground.

Drones are becoming more and more popular. However, there are potential health hazards. For example, the noise emitted by these devices can affect hearing and cause headaches. The vibrations from drones can also cause harm to the body. Finally, flying drones without an operator license puts you at risk of fines and legal action.

These guidelines will help you avoid any drone accident. You must keep your drone within your direct line of sight when flying it. If you are flying near airports, make sure that you obey any restrictions imposed by airport authorities. It is important to be cautious when flying drones over water. This increases the chance of a collision.

Which drone can you use for aerial photography?

There are two options for aerial photography. Either you can rent a small remote-controlled helicopter, or you can buy an expensive camera set with a gimbal stabilizer.

This is the best option if you want to shoot a movie or video because it allows you complete control over what the shots look like. With the second option, you'll have to pay more and be much more dependent on the pilot.

What happens if the shot doesn't look perfect? That's where drones come in.

A drone is tiny, autonomous aircraft that can fly without the input of an operator and take photos or videos.

They're extremely versatile and fly close to buildings and structures to capture images or record footage. They can also fly low above crowds to take pictures of people.

Drones are extremely useful for aerial photography as well as videography. But they're also great for marketing because they allow you to create incredible visuals that would otherwise require a lot of manpower and equipment.

It is easy to place them in strategic spots to capture beautiful imagery. You can fly them remotely, which makes it easy to operate.

For example, some companies hire drones for weddings. These wedding photographers can take amazing photos of the bride and groom while their drones fly above the ceremony location.

They can also fly them directly to the guests to capture family portraits. They can also fly them above reception areas to capture stunning views of the venue.

These activities are perfect to make promotional material or event coverage. Drones are also great for making short films. One could be used to demonstrate to clients that your company is superior.

For all these reasons, drones are becoming increasingly popular for aerial photography and videography. If you want to become a professional photographer, then drones might be the best option.

Can drones take night photos?

The answer to that question is yes. We've been doing this for many years. Since decades, we have been taking night shots.

There's one problem. Night photography requires sophisticated equipment. It's impossible to achieve night photography with a camera less than $10,000.

A series of wavelengths are created when light hits an object.

These wavelengths combine to create white light at very distant distances from the source.

This is how our eyes are able to see colors even when the sun is miles away.

Instead, light reflects narrow bands of wavelengths when it strikes objects that are close to the source. These wavelengths bounce back directly to us without any overlap.

That means that the closer the object is, the brighter it appears. This is why objects glow under black light.

The amount of light reflected depends on how much energy the object absorbs. When light hits an object it will reflect more blue light than red.

The human eye is more sensitive to blue light than objects, so objects appear bluer when they are viewed under blacklight.

This is what drones have to do. If you want to photograph something dark like a forest or cave, you will need a very bright source of light.

An ordinary lamp won't be powerful enough to illuminate the entire scene. You will get a shadowed image, nothing more.

A strobe is better for taking great pictures. You won't want to lug around a large flashgun so you will need a smaller one.

Speedlights are also known for their flashes of light that create a stroboscopic effect.

Stroboscopic means that the light pulses across the screen. The faster the rate, the better quality of the picture.

We won't cover how to set-up a Speedlight. There are many tutorials available online.

We will tell you to make sure that the subject is properly illuminated in order for a clear photograph.

You should aim the beam at a 45 degree angle to achieve this. You can adjust the light's intensity by moving the flashgun's head.

Once you've found the perfect setting, keep the gun steady and press the shutter release button.

Press the shutter once more, just before the flashlight reaches the subject. This will trigger the flashgun to fire another burst of light.

While the first burst illuminates the subject, the second one will capture the moment after the first burst has passed.

The result is continuous exposure, where both bursts are recorded.

Now that we know how to capture images during the daylight, let's learn how to do night photography.

So far I have covered all you need to know about taking night photos.

But there's still one thing left to cover: the color balance.

Most people assume that nighttime images will not be dark enough.

This is true even for daytime images.

It doesn't matter whether you're taking pictures at dawn or dusk; the camera will always record a darker image.

What laws should I be aware of regarding drone photography?

Drone flight regulation is regulated by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). In addition to the FAA regulations, local laws may also apply. Check with your state's transportation department to determine which rules govern drone flights.

In most cases, drone owners are required to obtain a license from the FAA. The FAA has published guidelines regarding licensing. Learn more about these guidelines by clicking here.

In some states, drone operators must register their drones with the government. Check out our Guide to Drone Registration for more information.

How To

How to Make a Time-Lapse with a Drone

There are two types of cameras that can be used for time-lapse photography: DSLRs (Digital Single Lens Reflex) and point-and-shoot digital camera.

DSLR cameras produce images that are more high-quality due to how light enters them. These cameras aren't great for shooting video as they require manual focus or exposure settings.

Beginners will find it easier to use point-and shoot cameras like the GoPro. Videos will look grainy because of the lower resolution.

The best camera for time-lapsing is a consumer drone. These small flying robots make a great alternative to expensive professional drones.

A drone is an autonomous remote-controlled aircraft that can fly without the need for human intervention. A drone generally uses one propeller to fly. Quadcopter drones could have multiple propellers.

Drones can be used to capture cinematic footage from a bird's-eye view. A gimbal stabilizer can be added to drones for smooth handheld footage.

To create a time-lapse, start recording while the drone hovers above your subject. The sky won't appear dark during the shot if the sun isn't directly overhead.

To achieve the desired effect, you can adjust the aperture and shutter speed. If you are filming a sunset, for example, the shutter speed can be set at 30 seconds and the aperture wide open to allow in as much natural lighting as possible.

Night shots can be shot using the opposite approach. You can reduce light entering your camera by slowing the shutter speed to 1/second and closing the aperture. This produces a bright image that makes details visible.
