Drone News: IACRA Glitch, AZ Drone Felony Bill, American Security Drone Act of 2023

This week in drone news we have three stories for you; IACRA glitch means anyone who applied for certs needs to re-apply, AZ bill to make flying drones over houses a felony, and the “American Security Drone Act of 2023” bill in congress.

Your first story this week is IACRA, which had a downtime and caused applications to be deleted!
This means if you registered for IACRA recently, you may need to create a new account…
And to complicate matters, FTN numbers were reset to the number before the downtime…
Which means if you have a PSI account and just created an IACRA, you will likely be given a new FTN number, which you’ll need to change to actually get scheduled for your exam.

Your second story this week is an Arizona bill that would make flying a drone over a house a felony…
The bill currently would ban any UAS flights over houses, which would be controlling navigable airspace.
As most folks who fly drones and other aircraft know, the FAA are the only ones who can control airspace, States have no jurisdiction or right to control airspace or overflight.
We’ll keep you updated if we learn any more about this story.

And your final story this week is an other bill, this one in the US Senate.
The bill titled “American Security Drone Act of 2023” would prohibit federal departments and agencies from purchasing or using UAS manufactured or assembled in countries identified as security threats.
The bill would also prohibit the use of federal funds, grants, or contracts from purchasing the drones on the newly proposed list.
