This drone video is from a short trip from Moate to Athlone in the centre of Ireland. Been there to meet one of my closest Uni friends and his family. Moate is a small town in the county of Westmeath, Ireland. We had a nice walk through the old rail track trail which is a significant path from Moate to Athlone with a golf club on the other side. We also spent time in Moate Heritage Park which is a beautifully located wonderful nature reserve. The name Móta is derived from the term motte-and-bailey, as the Normans built an example of this type of fortification here. The earthwork is still visible behind the buildings on the main street.
Later I also had a chance to visit Athlone, a town in central Ireland. The medieval Athlone Castle offers views from its battlements, plus displays on local history. South of town, along the River Shannon, the early Christian ruins of Clonmacnoise include a cathedral and 7 churches. To the north, vast Lough Ree is dotted with islands, some housing monastic ruins.
This drone video will give some great aerial perspectives for both towns, however, due to the weather some footage may appear too dull.
