The Iranian Aircraft Manufacturing Company (HESA) Shahed-136 kamikaze drones have become a source of consternation for the US and the West, which arm and control Ukraine's Armed Forces (AFU). The low-cost drones have begun to destroy the expensive, limited, and sophisticated Western and US military equipment supplied to Ukraine.
The HESA Shahed 136, also known as the Geran-2 in Russia, is an Iranian loitering munition autonomous swarm pusher-prop aerial drone developed by HESA that has been in service since 2021. Its primary purpose is to attack ground targets from a safe distance. The low-cost drone is launched in multiples from a launch rack or in batches of five or more and is designed to evade air defenses and overwhelm ground targets while consuming air defense resources during the attack.
