How can I fly my drone safely?

It takes practice to fly a drone. Although drones are much more stable than regular aircraft, pilots still need to get experience. We recommend that beginners practice indoors or near their home.

To fly a drone you will need to have three fundamental skills. These are hovering, landing, and taking off.

Take Off

The drone will take off by simply being lifted into the air. Press the button on your controller to cause the drone to move upwards. When the drone has reached a certain height you can stop pressing the button.

Hovering

Hovering means keeping the drone steady in midair. Holding down either the left or right triggers while pressing the throttle will allow you to hover. To tilt the drone, hold down both triggers and press the throttle.

Landing

Landing means returning the drone to earth safely. To land, release the throttle and tilt the controller downward toward the ground. The drone will eventually slow down, and then land.

If you feel confident flying your drone, then take it outside. Make sure you don't crash into anything.

Can drones take night photos?

The answer to that question is yes. But we've been doing it for years now. We've been taking pictures at night for decades.

But there is a catch. Night photography requires sophisticated equipment. Any camera under $10k is not capable of night photography.

A series of wavelengths are created when light hits an object.

These wavelengths overlap and combine to form white light at very long distances from the source.

This is how our eyes are able to see colors even when the sun is miles away.

The opposite is true. When light strikes an object very close to its source it reflects in narrow wavelengths. These wavelengths bounce back straight to us, without overlapping.

This means that objects appearing brighter are closer together. This is why objects appear to glow under black light.

The energy that an object absorbs will determine how much light is reflected. The object may reflect more red light than blue light when it is hit by light.

The human eye is more sensitive to blue light than objects, so objects appear bluer when they are viewed under blacklight.

So what does this have to do with drones? Use a very bright light source to photograph dark places, such a forest or cave.

An ordinary lamp won't be powerful enough to illuminate the entire scene. You will get a shadowed image, nothing more.

If you want a good picture, you'll need to use a strobe instead. A small flashgun is better than a big one, as you don't need it.

These lights are called speedlights due to the fact that they produce flashes light so fast, they can create a stroboscopic effect.

The light pulses across the screen when "stroboscopic" is used. The better the picture, the faster the rate.

We won't be discussing how to set up Speedlights here. But there are plenty of tutorials online.

We'll tell you, to get a clear shot, ensure that your subject is well lit.

To achieve this, you should aim the beam at a 45-degree angle. You can adjust the light's intensity by moving the flashgun's head.

Once you have set the setting that is right for you, hold the gun steady as the shutter release button is pressed.

Then, just before the light reaches the subject, press the shutter again. This will trigger the flashgun to fire another burst of light.

While the first burst illuminates the subject, the second one will capture the moment after the first burst has passed.

This results in a continuous exposure that records both bursts and steady light.

You now know how to take photos during the day. Let's move onto night photography.

So far I have covered all you need to know about taking night photos.

One thing is left to cover, however: the color harmony.

Most people assume that all images taken at nights will be too dark.

This is true even for daytime images.

The camera will always record darker images regardless of whether you are taking photos at dawn and dusk.

What is a good distance for a drone?

When a drone becomes part of you, it is considered a good distance. You lose sight of the drone's physical boundaries when you view it as an independent entity.

You can immerse yourself in your surroundings without worrying about the drone's next move.

The psychological benefit of flying close to ground is also evident. It gives us a feeling of control over the environment and allows us to feel more connected to nature.

There is also a downside. We can damage drones by flying near the ground. So how far away do you fly?

It all depends on the drone that you are flying. A good rule of thumb when filming aerial footage or landscapes is to keep your drone at least 500 feet above ground.

For example, if you are filming a cityscape, you might want to keep it at 1,000 feet. This way, you can avoid buildings and trees that would otherwise block your view.
