This week NASA signed onto a Space Act Agreement with Boeing on a project to build a full size version of the Transonic Truss Braced Wing design with a goal of demonstrating significant improvements in efficiency that will directly translate to improved fuel consumption and lower costs.

This may be a blueprint for a future airliner, fuel cost is one of the major considerations to aircraft operators and technologies which provide even small improvements can pay off handsome rewards over the lifetime of the aircraft.

Or maybe the technology developed will end up being used in some completely different form....

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the laws governing drone photography?

Drone flight regulation is regulated by Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Local laws and regulations may apply, in addition to those of the FAA. To find out which drone flight rules apply to your state, check with the transportation department.

In most cases, drone owners need to get a FAA license. The FAA has guidelines for licensing. You can learn more about these guidelines here.

Drone operators in some states must register their drones to the government. You can find out more in our Guide for Drone Registration.

Which drone can be used to carry a DSLR?

Drones are becoming more useful for everyday tasks. Drones can already be equipped with cameras to take aerial photos.

Drones have been around for many years but most people don't use them because they aren’t practical. Drones are difficult to control, noisy and expensive.

We created the Drone-A1. This quadcopter is the first to be fully autonomous and specifically designed for photographers.

The Drone-A1 is equipped with an HD camera capable of taking stunning photos and videos. Its powerful onboard computer allows the Drone-A1 to track any subject automatically.

This means you can focus entirely on capturing great images while the Drone-A1 takes care of flying, hovering, and following your subject.

The Drone-A1's Smart Follow feature makes it easy to take amazing photos. Point the Drone-A1 toward your subject. It will automatically track them and maintain distance between you.

The Drone-A1 will give you freedom and convenience while shooting. No longer will you need to worry about having a steady hand or knowing exactly where your subject is going.

The Drone- A1 also comes with a GPS built-in that allows you share your photos with friends and family. This allows everyone to view your photos from anywhere on the planet.

Whether you're a professional photographer or enjoy taking pictures for fun, the Drone-A 1 is perfect for you.

Can drones shoot nighttime photos?

Answer: Yes. But we have been doing it for years. We've been taking pictures at night for decades.

There is one catch. Night photography requires sophisticated equipment. There's no way to do it with any camera that costs less than $10k.

When light hits an object, it bounces back in a series of wavelengths.

These wavelengths can be combined to form white light over very long distances.

This is why your eyes can see colors even if the sun is many millions of miles away.

The opposite is true. When light strikes an object very close to its source it reflects in narrow wavelengths. These wavelengths bounce back directly to us without any overlap.

This means that objects appear brighter when they are closer to each other. This is why objects can glow under black lights.

The energy the object absorbs influences how much light is reflected. Therefore, if light hits an object, it might reflect more blue than red light.

The human eye is sensitive to blue light the most so objects appear brighter when viewed in black light.

This is what drones have to do. You need a bright light source if you want to photograph dark objects, such as caves or forests.

A normal lamp won't provide enough light to illuminate the entire scene. It will only give you a shadowed image and nothing else.

If you want to get a great picture, you will need a flashgun. A small flashgun is better than a big one, as you don't need it.

These lights are known as speedlights because they produce flashes of light so fast that they create a stroboscopic effect.

The light pulses across the screen when "stroboscopic" is used. The faster the rate, the better quality of the picture.

We won’t talk about how to setup a Speedlight. But there are plenty of tutorials online.

We will tell you that to capture a clear picture, you must ensure that the subject is illuminated evenly.

You should aim the beam at a 45 degree angle to achieve this. You can adjust the flashgun's intensity by moving its head.

Once you have selected the correct setting, hold the gun steady and release the shutter release key.

Just before the flashlight reaches your subject, you can press the shutter button again. This will set off the flashgun to start a second burst.

While the first burst illuminates the subject, the second one will capture the moment after the first burst has passed.

This creates a continuous exposure in which both bursts or light are recorded.

Now that you're comfortable taking photos during the day let's get to night photography.

So far I have covered all you need to know about taking night photos.

But there's still one thing left to cover: the color balance.

Most people assume that nighttime images will not be dark enough.

It's true. But it also applies to daytime photographs.

It doesn't matter whether you're taking pictures at dawn or dusk; the camera will always record a darker image.

How to fly my drone?

You need to practice flying a drone. Drones are more stable than regular aircraft but it takes practice to become proficient. We recommend that beginners practice indoors or near their home.

Three skills are necessary to learn how to fly a drone. These are taking off, hovering, and landing.

Take Off

Taking off is simply lifting the drone into the air. Press the button on your controller to cause the drone to move upwards. Stop pushing the button when the drone reaches a desired height.

Hovering

Hovering is a way to keep the drone still in midair. To hover, hold down the right or left trigger while pressing on the throttle. You can move the drone by tilting the controller by holding down both triggers.

Landing

Landing is when the drone returns safely to the earth. To land, let go of the throttle and gently tilt the controller towards the ground. This will cause your drone to slow down until it lands.

Fly your drone as comfortable as possible. Make sure you don't crash into anything.

How To

How can I make my drone photos look better?

A drone picture is a great way to capture an amazing image. The result can be more stunning than any image taken with a conventional camera if you do it correctly.

You can still improve the image quality. You can do this by making sure you are using the right settings for your model.

Some tools and apps can help you edit your photos after taking them. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom is one example. It allows you to import multiple files and then adjust each shot individually.

You can crop or enhance specific parts of an image. This includes cropping out unwanted objects and changing lighting and contrast.

Snapseed is another tool that offers basic editing capabilities such as cropping and brightness adjustments.

The most important aspect of post-processing, however, is ensuring that your final product looks professional.

This means that you need to know how to set up your camera properly and how best to position yourself.

Also, ensure that you select the correct settings for your lens. If you're photographing landscapes, for example, use a longer focal-length (e.g. 200mm), whereas if your goal is to take close-ups of objects, choose a shorter focal length (e.g. 50mm).

Learn how to shoot RAW format, which gives you more control over the final image.

Once you master these techniques, you will be able to create stunning drone photos that will impress everyone.
